MARINE PROPELLERS
Propellers are designed for each application, with the main requirements being minimum noise and vibration, combined with maximum efficiency and speed. These often conflicting requirements are met by optimising the radial pitch distribution, section profiles, skew and rake to minimise cavitation, maximise clearances and hence reduce pressure pulses on the hull, which are often the cause of vibration. State-of-the-art manufacturing and inspection methods are used to ensure that full benefits of the design are realised: propellers generally met ISO 484:1981 Class 1 or Class S standards of accuracy and are dynamically balanced to ensure smooth running.
