Nautical charts are graphic representations of maritime areas and their adjacent regions. Some charts, depending on scale, may illustrate topographical features including water depth and land height. Some may illustrate locations of navigational aids, natural features found on the seabed, navigational hazards, tidal and current information and many other details. A nautical chart is essential for navigation and is often required by many countries for vessels to carry. Charts are available in paper form and computerised electronic form. In recent times, technology has made available the ability to print out charts on demand with the latest cartographic data. Nautical publications are sets of government published publications providing information for safe nautical navigation. As waterways change regularly, publications need to be kept up to date. One method to help keep updated with each new publication is to use the "Chart and Publication Correction Record Card" system. Less
