Thermal spraying is a coating process or surface engineering, where various material such as ceramics, alloys, plastics, composites and metals are sprayed on the exterior of another. Thermal spraying is more efficient at covering larger areas at greater deposition rates than alternative coating processes. To assess coating quality, porosity, hardness, oxide content, surface roughness and bond strength are measured. Various applications include protection against temperature/oxidation, fouling, and corrosion; altering electrical or thermal conductivity; reparation of damaged surfaces; and wear control; to name a few. Due to the mechanical application which requires line-of-sight to apply, thermal spraying is not suitable for areas which are physically blocked or complex in form. Less
